Baby killed Mary and brought her body back to the site where Otis and the others burned her on an altar made of branches. Jerry and Denise were locked inside a coffin and lowered into a tunnel that fed into an underground operating room. The operating room was administered by a psychotic surgeon known as Doctor Satan.

There’s A Plot Hole Regarding Otis Driftwood In Rob Zombie’s Firefly Trilogy

It might not be much of a plot hole, but it is no doubt a major inconsistency for the Firefly Trilogy and quite a strange one considering how well The Devil’s Rejects otherwise transitions from the events in House of 1000 Corpses. While we’ll likely never have an in-canon answer for Otis’s change in appearance, it was probably for the best considering how well-received The Devil’s Rejects is by fans. It's hard to believe House of 1000 Corpses hit theaters so many years ago. It's even harder to grasp that the world has lost an enormous number of the actors who starred in the cult classic since its release.

Visit The Film Locations

Inspired by a French chateau in the Pyrenees mountains, the fairytale estate was described in 1939 by the Los Angeles Times as the "Alhambra mystery castle." Opened as the American Storage Building, today it's a Public Storage location (3636 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles 90004) filled from top to bottom with orange steel doors, including the storied 13th floor. The East Hollywood building may be most haunted by its own former glory. The so-called Los Feliz Murder House (2475 Glendower Pl, Los Angeles 90027) stood abandoned for decades, with its Christmas tree and still-wrapped presents remaining inside.

The 7 Most Iconic Cemeteries In Los Angeles

Although House of 1000 Corpses is a cult classic that made Zombie a household name in the horror genre, the director himself actually doesn't like the film very much. Robert Bartleh Cummings, more commonly known as Rob Zombie, came to public prominence in the early '90s as the frontman of the heavy metal band White Zombie. He went on to become a successful solo act, releasing albums under the name of, of course, Rob Zombie. Now that Zombie has had his hands on countless titles, making him a mainstay in the horror movie genre, fans might be surprised to learn that House of 1000 Corpses was his directorial debut. Since this debut, Zombie has gone on to make two Halloween movies, The Lords of Salem, 31, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, The Devil's Rejects, 3 from Hell, and other projects. Two teenage couples traveling across the backwoods of Texas searching for urban legends of serial killers end up as prisoners of a bizarre and sadistic backwater family of serial killers.

While Rob Zombie has acknowledged the change and stated it reflects his desire to have the sequels be much more realistic than House of 1000 Corpses, it’s still something that’s never addressed in the films themselves. At one point Otis is simply an albino man, and by the next he wakes up looking like Charles Manson with a thick dark beard and normal complexion. In House of 1000 Corpses, when we finally meet Otis Driftwood as played by Bill Moseley, he appears much differently than he does in the film’s sequels. His skin and eye color indicates that he’s inflicted with albinism, and it’s also illustrated with his incredibly fair-colored hair.

If that sounds like it’s in the centre of a bustling downtown, it’s not. The empty desert is measured out in a grid of streets and avenues, presumably for the inevitable day when the suburbs of Los Angeles sprawl out to the Nevada border. They stole the woman's car and drove until they reached the Kahiki Palms Motel. In May of 1978, Otis was at home sleeping with the rotting corpse of a young woman when officers from the Ruggsville County Sheriff's Department laid siege to the family farm. Awakening with a start, Otis donned an iron mask with a skull painted on it, grabbed a rifle, and opened fire on the offending police officers. The other family members did likewise, but it soon became apparent that they were outgunned.

Denise later wakes up to find herself strapped to an operating table, surrounded by Dr. Satan and Earl, who survived the cave-in. The movie ends with Denise screaming in horror and the words "The End?" displayed before the end credits. The Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier offers expansive views, several beautiful chapels, and its own pseudo-"Hollywood" sign, as any self-respecting cemetery should. By 1956, it also offered a crematorium, mortuary, and flower shop, turning it into a one-stop-shop for all death-related needs. A lot of the poor upkeep of the cemetery may be traced to its owner, who has been accused of "grave desecration" and "unlawful burial of multiple bodies in a single plot," among other things.

It also houses the burial site for the Japanese Americans who fought in the 442 Regimental Combat Unit during WWII. There's even a site where 400 former carnies are buried; the Pacific Coast Showmen's Association Plot was reserved for retired or out-of-work carnies. “We don’t know the life stories of the people we are burying today, but we know many of them were homeless. Town of Sierra Madre seems like it hasn’t seen much excitement since the Wild West days.

He gave Johnny Lee Johns the nickname Captain Spaulding after the character of Jeffrey T. Spaulding from the 1930 film Animal Crackers. Otis also befriended Spaulding's daughter Vera-Ellen whom he referred to as "Baby". He is not without humanity, however; he shares a bond of love and loyalty with his family, particularly his adoptive sister Baby, of whom he is fiercely protective. His relationship with his "father" Captain Spaulding is more combative; in the first film, he calls Spaulding an "old bitch", while in the second film, they frequently argue. She makes her way to the main road where she encounters Captain Spaulding, who gives her a ride in his car. She passes out from exhaustion in the front seat, and Otis suddenly appears in the back seat with a knife.

The sequels, on the other hand, started to prefer a more realistic take as seen in The Devil’s Rejects and years later with 3 From Hell. But it’s a lot more than just style that’s changed over the course of the three movies, and as pointed out by some fans, there’s something of a plot hole to be found in the Firefly Trilogy. Otis is a fictional serial killer played by actor Bill Moseley and first appeared in the 2003 horror film House of 1000 Corpses, directed by Rob Zombie. He is one of the more visible and outspoken members of the murderous Firefly clan and is personally responsible for the deaths of at least three individuals. A fetishist to the extreme, Otis is characterized by his strong southern accent, long blond hair and a penchant for spouting his personal philosophical credo.
